ARTISTS FOR A WORK FREE AMERICA

AFWFA MANIFESTO

ARTISTS FOR A WORK FREE AMERICA is an organization founded to celebrate beauty, pleasure and the pursuit of self expression. We believe that work is evil and we stand as a force against employment and the severe damage it afflicts. We are organized to publicly protest the perversities of the modern work force and strive towards the re-education of the American people about what it means to be human and the liberties that encompass life. We strongly believe that work is bad for the body, mind and spirit; and that no modern economic system should force a man or woman into the work place.

Humans were placed on this planet to eat, sleep, communicate, fornicate and create art. We were not placed on this planet to be awoken by obnoxious alarm clocks, wear blood-restricting suits or drive in congested, polluted traffic. We were not put here to sit under fluorescent lights, push buttons and talk on phones. We were not designed to waste our time living in offices, performing tasks and chores that any reasonable technology could perform.

AFWFA strongly supports the replacement of the human workforce with one that is automated and computerized, and encourages both the public and private sectors advance towards this very realistic goal. Using existing computer and robotic technologies, much of todayнs work force could be displaced, thus freeing man from the economical and emotional slavery we now endure. We stand united to pressure the government to support technological growth and the automation of the American workforce- letting machines carry the burden of job repetition, boredom and metal stagnation.

AFWFA believes that all humans are potential artists. We are painters and writers, musicians and performers. Through social conditioning we have been stripped of our natural desire to create and perform and reprogrammed to believe that working is the path to a happy, meaningful life. But we must ask- what are we working towards? Who are we working for? Money is the carrot in front of our eyes and our culture dictates that we work to consume. In order to break this vicious cycle, we need to consume less to work less. We need to consume more art and less junk. We need to break the cycle of working/consuming towards playing/creating. It is a decision we have the right and power to choose.

Instead of fighting against the evolution of technology and loss of jobs to third world countries, AFWFA views automation and robotic technologies as the key to a revolutionary shift in the responsibilities of American labor. By forfeiting our jobs to computers and robots, we not only create a more efficient, competitive national economy, but free ourselves from the economic slavery our current system supports. Let your robot bring home the paycheck.

AFWFA believes that man is ill-suited for work as defined by the twentieth century, and that we will find our salvation through the aggressive application of computer and robotic technologies. Our work-based culture has forgotten the value of art and expression and our ability to participate within it. Our work based culture has devalued the human experience, and emphasized consumption over creation. We exist to remind people of the value and beauty of life, of our ability to communicate and the fundamental ideas of freedom. We have neglected our senses and our pursuit of truth, beauty and experience. We have neglected the curious mind and our ability to create. Work has homogenized our dreams, robbed us of our time and energy, and disguised itself as a critical element to our future happiness and success. We have witnessed the evils of work in perfect clarity and reject the notion that we must work to obtain the American dream.
